Just how much is in a lipgloss?

Due to my overly enthusiastic purchasing habit when it comes to lipgloss, I thought it would be a good idea to find out just how many applications each tube contains.

I started with an old lipgloss from Merle Norman. The lipgloss is said to contain .17 oz of lip color.

I painted a paper towel with my lipgloss until it was empty to figure out the surface area that the gloss would cover.

roughly 12.5 inches x 13 inches = 162.5 sq. inches.

Then I calculated the surface area of my lips which is roughly 1.65 sq. inches. (Yes, I have tiny lips.)

The total surface area divided by the surface area of my lips gives about 98.5 applications. 98.5 applications in a .17 oz tube means that there is roughly 5.79 applications per oz of lipgloss.

After doing the calculations, I can realistically say it's possible to use up a lipgloss within a very short amount of time. If I were to reapply 5 times a day, everyday, I would finish a .17 oz (the size of a MAC lipglass) in about 20 days. Which is less than 3 weeks! My project 10 pan is looking up!

Here are some notes for myself:

VS Beauty Rush: .46 oz - 276 Applications
MAC Lipglass: .17 oz - 98.5 Applications
MAC Dazzleglass: .06 oz - 36 Applications
MAC Plushglass: .14 oz - 84 Applications
Chanel Glossimer .19 oz - 114 Applications
